Google lança All For Good comunity search engine

All for good is a website that aggregates volunteer opportunities from around the US from a number of charities and other websites

O Google lançou o All For Good, um website que junta voluntários aos trabalhos voluntários. “All for good is a website that aggregates volunteer opportunities from around the US from a number of charities and other websites. All For Good is also now being used to power the search portion of Serve.gov“, explicou o site Mashable.

Are you looking for ways to give back to your community? All for Good makes it simple to find and share volunteer activities with friends and family. Inspired by the call of President Obama to engage more Americans in service, a group of individuals from the technology, marketing and public sectors came together to build an open source application that allows you to find and share volunteer activities. All for Good lets you browse activities and find events based on your location or interests. The site is governed by Our Good Works a nonprofit organization that was formed by some of the people who initiated the project and who support the product’s growth.Even better - sign in with your primary social network to connect with friends, and discover and share interesting activities. Doing good is more fun together!

How did All for Good get started?

When President Obama called on Americans to get out and serve even before he took office, people who led the online and on the ground effort looked to Silicon Valley (where lots of tech companies start and settle) for new tools to engage in service. All this chatter ultimately turned into a groundswell of individuals from varied backgrounds — technology, marketing, academia, non-profit— coming together to volunteer their time and talents to create All for Good.

From that initial spark, our ad hoc crew worked to bring the idea to life. Companies and organizations joined in and donated resources to help turn a shared idea into a reality.

Now that we’ve gotten it started, we’re looking to you, the community at large, to help us innovate and grow All for Good.

Who are we?

Doing good takes many forms. Some people plant trees (trees are good!). Some people build houses. Some people create technology. There are a large number of individuals and organizations in the social sector already doing great work in this field - too many to name - and we tip our hats to all of them as we take the plunge and join the community (and look forward to collaborating with everyone!).

We are a self-organized crew of software engineers, marketing managers, product developers and designers who have underestimated the cups of coffee and lines of code it would take to create All for Good. But if it helps you do good work, then the lost sleep is all worth it.

Our core team is made up of volunteering enthusiasts from places like Google, Craigslist Foundation, UCLA, YouTube, FanFeedr and Aha! Ink. As a contributor to the All for Good project, Google is hosting the All for Good website and products. Several Google engineers worked on All for Good as a 20-percent project (Google lets engineers spend a day a week on projects that interest them), collaborating with a broader team to build the product.

Lots of individuals and companies came together to get All for Good off the ground. The activities you find on the site come from nonprofits, companies, self-organized groups, and individuals. Founding activity providers include 1-800-volunteer.org, 1 Sky, AARP, American Solutions for Winning the Future, American Red Cross, City of New York, The Corporation for National and Community Service, craigslist, Girl Scouts of the USA, Habitat for Humanity, HandsOn Network and Points of Light Institute, Idealist, MeetUp, Mentor, Network for Good, Organizing for America, ServeNet.org, Sierra Club, TechMission, The Extraordinaries, Truist, United Jewish Communities, United Way, Volunteer2, VolunteerMatch and Youth Service America.

( On June 22, 2009, First Lady Michelle Obama officially kicked off United We Serve — a call to all Americans to join a volunteer effort this summer and be part of building a new foundation for America, one community at a time. The initiative is led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency dedicated to fostering service in communities across the country).

Following nd being followed on Twitter

25, maio, 2009

The survey asked to what extent they agreed that users should follow people who follow them, and whether people who they follow should follow them back. On a scale (1=strongly disagree, 5=strongly agree), the mean for both questions was the same (2.74). Essentially, people don’t feel that strongly at all about reciprocation.

People in the survey see a modicum amount of respect associated with higher follower numbers, but little association with how “smart” people are.

People use Twitter for all sorts of reasons. But what are those reasons, exactly? Is it about marketing, gathering intelligence, connecting, community? Is it for social reasons? Yes

The survey of 432 Twitter users was conducted by MarketingProfs on Twitter from 4/8 to 4/15, 2009. The data was collected and analyzed by Allen Weiss, MarketingProfs CEO, Professor at USC’s Marshall School, and @allenweiss on Twitter.

Toldya.

Creating a store in ToldYa is relatively simple, especially when compared to the alternatives. You need to provide to provide basic data like contact information, the items you want to sell, store title, details, images, and item quantity. You can provide a great deal of multimedia to fill out your embeddable store, including an introductory video for your store. This can be a great way to pitch someone quickly and interactively. No financial details are necessary up-front.

Once the store is set-up, it’s all about distribution. And let us tell you: there are a lot of options. Beyond your store website, you are provided embeddable code to place the store on your blog or website. You can also link your store to your social graph by creating an application for your store on Facebook, Myspace iGoogle, and more. You can place your store practically everywhere“.

O assunto na web é automóvel

18, maio, 2009

To quantify the buzz levels, here is a look at the news coverage and for context, coverage of Iraq“.

Hugh Jackman Reveals $100K Charity Donation

24, abril, 2009

Conforme noticiamos aqui    há alguns dias, Hugh Jackman propôs doar 100 mil dólares australianos para caridade, como se segue: “ on April 14, Australian actor/producer Hugh Jackman pledged to give AUS $100,000 to charity via Twitter. At current conversion rates, that works out at around $72,000 US. The charity will be selected by Twitter pitches - send a tweet to @realhughjackman explaining why your chosen charity is the best”.

Hoje, 24/4, Jackman anunciou sua decisão e para surpresa dividiu o prêmio entre duas instituições, conforme noticiou o Mashable : ” $50K went to Operation of Hope, a not-for-profit medical foundation that donates surgical procedures to children in developing countries born with facial deformities. The remaining $50K went to Charity:watter, a New York-based initiative that brings clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations“.

Are the Photo Sharing sites realizing that Twitter is the next big medium for sharing images?

20, abril, 2009

Tweetero is an open source Twitter application for iPhone. The application includes fairly standard functions you’d expect to find on a Twitter mobile app, like the ability to view your friend’s updates, see replies, and send and receive direct messages. Additionally – and this is where it starts to make sense for ImageShack – there is the built-in ability to upload photos to the service’s TwitPic competitor.

Mashable conta que ” Interestingly, Yfrog is already included in a number of iPhone applications for Twitter, including Tweetie and Twittelator. By offering up a client of their own – especially an open source one that will lead to more apps that utilize Yfrog – ImageShack can keep the momentum going and win market share in the new frontier of photo sharing: Twitter.

Many milestones have been reached; the growth of nearly every aspect of social media has and continues to be enormous. We’ve dug up some amazing statistics and numbers from this realm“.

“ Its competitor, Hulu, is also growing fast, but not nearly as fast as YouTube. According to some calculations, YouTube will serve 75 billion video streams to 375 million unique visitors in 2009″.

According to their latest financial report, its revenue in the first quarter was $5.51 billion, a 3% decrease from last quarter, but still a 6% increase from the same period last year”.

Its traffic has grown immensely in one year’s period, especially in Europe where it grew 314%. According to comScore, it has grown a staggering 2,721% in Italy from February 2008 to February 2009. In other European countries, its growth was also immense: 999% in Spain, 607% in Belgium, 518% in France, 499% in Switzerland“.

- O MySpace que há alguns anos acumulava crescimento exponencial vê o facebook traçando a mesma trajetória.”according to latest calculations, Facebook now has a total of 65.7 million unique visitors versus MySpace’s 54.1 million. MySpace was sold to News Corp. for $580 million in 2005. Facebook’s valuation? Depending who you believe, it could be anywhere from 2 to 15 billion dollars. Not bad, considering the economic situation”.

According to their study, 66.8% of Internet users have used social networks, while only 65.1% have used email“.

“Twitter itself is growing at a crazy rate; although it already has a very large audience, it grew 76.8 percent just from February to March. Its yearly growth rate? 1,382 percent. According to Nielsen, Twitter currently has 7 million unique monthly visitors. If it keeps growing at this rate, it’ll have nearly 100 million visitors same time next year”.

Twitter news and trends. Tinker track it all

1, abril, 2009

” Dubbed Thinker, it’s both a social media service that makes it easy to track specific trends and news, and also a fully-fledged Twitter Web interface that has a monetization model for brand advertisers” disse o Mashable apontando-o como uma ferramenta impostante para os planejadores de mídia online.

Most people rely on Twitter Search and hashtags to keep tabs on these events, but these aren’t particularly efficient or user friendly. There have been a number of sites that have offered one-off Twitter pages for events, like the Presidential election and The Oscars. These are great, but there still hasn’t been an easy way to create similar pages for smaller events or breaking news stories. Tinker solves this problem, allowing users to build these pages in seconds. And it’s very well done, with a polished intuitive interface that may well make the site the de facto standard for Twitter events“, inormou o Techcrunch e o apresentou como uma ferramenta robusta para divulgar, promover, noticiar eventos e juntar pessoas em torno dele. E continua ” At launch Tinker is going to allow normal users to create their own ‘Events’, but they’ll only be able to search for one key word, hashtag, or phrase at a time (they can also choose terms that they’d like to exclude). Trusted partners, such as those that are running an event, will be able to access a more robust interface, where they can include multiple queries in a stream (normal users will eventually be able to use the same functionality). And while these queries are currently limited to Twitter and FriendFeed for now, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw Tinker open up to monitoring other services in the future“.

Looks very interesting and promising!
